Race Reports
Fairbairn Cup 2008 - Men's Senior VIII
Illness rather took its toll on the crew in the run up to the final race of the term, but we were confident that we could show our abilities and our training this term.
Fairbairns - 1st & 2nd Novice Men
The 1st Novice Men were the first Peterhouse crew to race in Fairbairns, and after the usual marshaling fun and games (i.e. being told to marshal under the Fort St. George footbridge and definitely not on our own hard), the nine novices were raring to go...
Clare Novice Regatta - Novice Men
After the muppetry of Emma Sprints, the novices were hoping that CNR would be a calmer and more focused proposition. Certainly the weather was kinder with less wind and no rain, though it was still bitterly cold.
Emma's Sprints - Novice Men
On a bitterly cold and wet Sunday, eight of the novice men braved the elements to compete in the first sprint race of the season, Emma Sprints. We were drawn against Homerton NM1 in the first round and the blustery conditions proved to be the deciding factor.
Queens' Ergs - Novice Men
We entered a strong crew for this, the traditional first competition of the racing season, an 8 x 500m erg race.
Winter Head - Senior Men
Managing to put out a IV and an VIII in the Winter Head was quite an achievement for the Men's Section. Having both those crews do well was even more encouraging. The IV, rowing early in the morning, had to contend with a strong head-wind down the reach, and this damaged their overall time, although it was still an excellent result. The VIII, rowing in a later division, had some problems marshalling, so set off at the back of the division, and despite leaving a huge gap between them and the crew in front, were still forced to negotiate some crews on the reach. A blade clash, resulting in a crab, cost some time, and so the end result was slower than possible. However, overall, the day was an encouraging result for our performance next term.
