Captain's Summary - Michaelmas 2009

Michaelmas is always a challenging term as you can never be sure how many rowers will return. This year, however, Michaelmas training week began with a flood of keen rowers. Shortly after this we also welcomed the new novices to the club.

Over the term the novices have worked extremely hard to get to grips with a new sport and the results they have managed to achieve reflect this determined attitude. (The links above connect to results and race reports.)

The women's squad, just as last year, ran a training plan where by some of the novices were intergrated into the senior squad during week 4, thus allowing them to race in a senior VIII in Fairbairns and focus on Lent Bumps as their main campaign.

The men's squad put out a very strong first IV, which after last year's near miss stormed to victory winning the Fairbairn IVs; an outstanding achivement! Meanwhile, the 2nd IV rowed on a rotational basis before setting the crew for Fairbairn's. The remaining rowers joined the Cross Keys Men's VIII. This year it was a pleasure to have a Men's VIII and Women's IV racing as the Cross Keys Club; it is always a delight to see so many alumni and I hope we can continue to as welcome many people back to the Club as possible in the future.

Finally, as always there are plenty of people to thank for this term's successes; first all of the coaches for their hard work and tireless cycling up and down a very cold towpath, next everyone who has come down to the river to cheer us on this term and finally everyone who supports us through the PBCF fund; thank you all very much.
