Emma Sprints 2009, Novice Women
Despite the gusty winds the novice women crew headed out to the Reach with high spirits to race in this year's Emma Sprints dressed as Smurfs. The first race was against Trinity Hall. Peterhouse pulled away quickly from the start and although there was a crab it was recovered before Trinity Hall could overtake and Peterhouse pulled away again to win the race easily. The second race against Clare Hall was much closer with Peterhouse winning by a canvas. This win earned us a place in the semi-finals against Sidney Sussex. Although Peterhouse crossed the finish line first the umpires controversially judged Sidney to have won because Peterhouse had had a head start. Although the crew was disappointed to not be in the final we beat Queens' in the play offs with over a length space between the boats meaning we came 3rd in our division. The crew really enjoyed themselves and did incredibly well holding their technique together in the windy conditions. It is looking promising for Fairbairns.
